A Bowl-A-Thon is a gathering of potters at a studio to throw bowls as a community for an Empty Bowls event. For one day, we gather and throw as many bowls are we can, a row of potters leaning over our wheels. On another day, we trim the bottom of the bowls, not caring if we threw the bowl or someone else did as we learn the difference other hands made on the shape of the bowl. Finally, we gather to glaze. Again, we are not glazing our own bowls but the bowls of a community of potters. We each glaze with our own favorite glazes and techniques and will marvel at how they will turn out on these bowls.
Many of the potters share the community of a pottery studio, like Red Kiln or Adjusting Sails. For the Bowl-A-Thons, the doors are thrown open and we will join different studios and create a larger sense of community, drawn together to help an even larger community.
We would like to thank the following studios for their support in hosting Bowl-A-Thons and for providing clay, fire and glaze.
